For most, Christmas break is a great time to relax and
celebrate the holidays with your loved ones. For others, this time can be a
little less exciting because your significant other is several
miles away from you and that feeling of loneliness begins to sink in.
No worries, though! There are ways to keep your romance
alive during long breaks away from college. [These same tips also apply to
those with a significant other who is overseas or traveling.]
1. Skype.
We can thank modern technology for creating instant
messaging and web cameras. If you don’t already have Skype, you should consider
downloading it. It’s a free software that allows you to video chat live with
other friends who have a Skype account. This is an easy way to see
your loved one every so often and talk to him face-to-face, even when he’s
far away.
2. Phone calls.
There is nothing wrong with a good ‘ole fashioned phone
call. Arrange a time everyday or once a week for a phone date. Talk about
what’s been going on in your life while you’ve been at home, and let him know
that you love and miss him. It will be comforting for both of you to hear the
other’s voice.
3. Text throughout
the day.
When he’s on your mind, text him and let him know. See or
hear something that reminds
you of him? Tell him. The good thing about text messaging is that it is
quick and easy. You can send as many as your phone contract will allow (or as
many as you want) and can have easy communication with someone far away.
4. Facebook
Check out his photos if you’re really missing him. Chat with
him online or write on his wall when you’re online. You can even post photos of
what you’ve been up to and tag him.
5. Mail letters
and/or gifts.
If you are far enough apart in distance, send him letters or
cards. Even though Facebook and email have almost completely replaced
snail-mail, consider doing it anyway! It will be a surprise to him to receive
something from you and he might even send something back. You could even mail
each other Christmas gifts if you can’t give them to each other in person.
6. Schedule a visit.
Are you two close enough that you can see each other every
now and again? Schedule a date night every so often so that you can actually
see each other in person. Do whatever would be the perfect date for you both or
just hang out and enjoy each other’s presence.
